The second-priciest group fixture is Scotland against Brazil, also staged at the same Miami location, where the cheapest available seat is listed at $1,641. A convergence of demographics, geography, celebrity appeal, and South Florida’s reputation as a premier entertainment hub is driving extraordinary interest in the Colombia–Portugal encounter.
“It’s clearly the last chance to watch Ronaldo, so there’s genuine excitement around that, the Colombian community is substantial in that city, and Miami has essentially become the unofficial headquarters for this tournament,” explains Jim McCarthy, a ticketing industry specialist whose firm, Impresario Strategic Growth Service, advises football clubs on attendance growth. “Beyond that, it’s simply a compelling fixture. Among group-stage matches, very few feature two genuinely elite sides.”
It might appear counterintuitive that major European footballing powers — Spain, Germany, France, and England — are not topping the demand charts, at least by this measure, which reflects market dynamics driven by supply and scarcity. However, FIFA’s decision to expand the competition from 32 to 48 participating nations has diluted the group phase by incorporating more lower-ranked sides and diminishing the competitive pressure, given that eight third-place finishers will advance alongside the top two from each group.
“All of these games were priced on the assumption of very strong demand, and I think the reality is that with the group stage restructured the way it has been, there are plenty of fixtures that were always going to need serious marketing and strategic thinking to shift tickets,” McCarthy notes.

It is equally reasonable to assume that many American spectators without a national allegiance are eager to witness a contest between two of the planet’s top footballing nations, particularly one featuring Cristiano Ronaldo. Greater Miami, with roughly 6.4 million inhabitants, ranks as the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the country. The city is notable for its concentration of affluent residents: census estimates suggest nearly 15% of households report annual incomes of $200,000 or more, while a separate analysis places the number of Miami millionaires at close to 39,000.
Although prices remain elevated across the board, available data indicates that group-stage resale values have been declining as the tournament draws closer — dropping roughly 23% on average over the preceding 30 days, though the movement has been negligible over the most recent week. “The secondary market is essentially a precise, real-time snapshot of how much value people assign to these tickets,” McCarthy observes.
“As an event approaches its final weeks, the natural tendency is for prices to soften. Unless genuine scarcity exists, ticket values don’t climb at the end — they drift lower, and sometimes that decline is steep. So we’re about to find out what the real picture looks like, which is genuinely fascinating.”
