A formal approach to recruit Jadon Sancho has been made by Getafe. The attacker, previously with Manchester United, is available without a transfer fee and has been weighing up potential destinations since his employment agreement ended during the summer.
Spanish opportunity and a recent arrival
At 26, the wide forward has several possibilities under consideration. Negotiations are reportedly difficult, although Getafe want to reach a solution. The Spanish outfit occupy 14th position in La Liga and are participating in the Europa Conference League this term.
A destination outside England is understood to be Sancho’s preference, without ruling out alternatives. His arrival at Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 involved a £73m transfer payment.
Another unattached player has already joined Getafe this week: Dani Carvajal, formerly the captain of Real Madrid. The right-back had been available since his Bernabeu agreement ended in June and arrived without a transfer fee.
The Spain international, 34, has committed himself until June 2027. His Madrid honours collection totals 27 trophies, with six triumphs in the Champions League among them.
Villa achievements and earlier loan moves
Last term brought 39 outings for Sancho during a temporary spell with Aston Villa. Under Unai Emery, the team secured a Champions League place and lifted the Europa League trophy. Sancho entered the win against Freiburg as a substitute near the end, marking his third appearance in a European final across three successive seasons.
His five-year association with United also included a loan return to Dortmund and a temporary move to Chelsea. The arrangement taking him to Stamford Bridge for 2024-25 contained a mandatory permanent purchase clause.
That permanent switch did not happen. After using Sancho in 41 matches, Chelsea instead incurred a £5m charge to return him to Old Trafford.
Training continues during the club search
While looking for his next employer, Sancho has shared footage of his workouts on Instagram. Among the material was a visit to non-league Flixton.
The North West Counties outfit subsequently explained that the former England international was not undergoing a trial there.
