The family of Lionel Messi has publicly appealed for responsible reporting after unverified claims about the death of his father, Jorge Messi, spread across Argentina. In an official statement, relatives confirmed that the 68-year-old is currently receiving medical attention for a condition that has not been publicly disclosed.

“He is being closely monitored by medical professionals and showing encouraging signs of improvement given the nature of his current condition,” the statement noted.

During the World Cup, Lionel Messi acknowledged that he was navigating a difficult personal matter following Argentina’s dominant 3-0 win over Algeria in their opening tournament fixture, though he declined to elaborate further at the time.

The official communication from the family was released on the same day that unverified reports claiming Jorge Messi had passed away began circulating throughout Argentina. The statement was issued through Messi‘s official media representatives.

“In moments such as these, we urge journalists and media outlets to exercise responsibility, discretion, and compassion,” the family stated. “The health of an individual and the emotional wellbeing of those close to them must never become fodder for speculation or reckless media coverage.”

The family concluded by confirming that all future updates regarding Jorge Messi‘s condition would be communicated exclusively by the family.
